Facebook has made yet another change to its homepage and the way we use it.  Who is surprised? Certainly not I, but I am a little disturbed by it.  Mostly because I’m LOST.  Sure I could join the 7,344,988 groups on “change it back to the old Facebook” and possibly sign a petition against the changes, but it’s very clear that…

Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t care about our feelings!

The newest Facebook changes are probably the worst for me.  Actually the culmination of the past few changes have completely changed exactly what Facebook used to mean.

Facebook changes are terrible because:…

With the new logo also comes a new “logo system” which means the overall theme will now remain consistent, featuring the Lombardi Trophy in the artwork.  The move is to create a more standardized look and feel and the use of the football as a trophy will also be seen in AFC and NFC Championship game trophies and playoff logos, starting in the 2010 season.

From a design standpoint, I think it’s a good move towards consistency.  Take a look at the logos for the superbowls in the past:

And the logo for this year:

There’s an array of colors and an array of style.  The only consistent element is the roman numeral, which also might be changed after a few years.  I wonder how these logos will turn out if the NFL opts to stop using the Roman Numeral system to identify Super Bowls.

Using the Lombardi Trophy as a mandated element sets a design standard for logo designers and also incorporates the most important factor about the NFL- what every player strives to achieve!

While everyone was watching the season premier of “Lost” (and being utterly confused in the process), I was catching the first episode of “The Michael Vick Project” on BET.

In case you missed it, here’s the first episode (click the image to view)

The PR person in me watched this with a different eye.  I’ve never been a head over heels fan of Michael Vick, so I promise my feelings weren’t attached…

Recently, I had the pleasure of doing a few projects for former NFL player, Hannibal Navies, and his foundation, The Hannibal Navies Foundation. The design projects were specifically for the Foundation’s 360 Sports Academy and its annual Camp in the Bay.

The Foundation needed a General Sponsorship Packet for its 360 Football Academy,  a Sponsorship Packet for the Camp in the Bay, and Save the Date mailers.

The final products are below:

Camp in the Bay Sponsorship Packet

Camp in the Bay Save the Date mailers

I really enjoyed working on this project for the Hannibal Navies Foundation.  I was given a lot of creative freedom and the Foundation was very supportive in giving me the items I needed to complete the job.  Not only that, I admire the work of the Hannibal Navies Foundation and its purpose for helping children academically, through sports.

One year ago yesterday (Jan. 24, 2009), the Wolfpack family lost a legend: Coach Kay Yow passed away after years of an ongoing battle with Breast Cancer. I wouldn’t exactly say she lost her fight, because she’s beaten it before…I’d just say she gracefully bowed out.

Kay Yow’s spirit was one to be admired and it’s how she’ll always be remembered.  I remember my first few encounters with her. I literally set next to her as an intern for NCSU Athletics in 2005 and befriended her dad as he was her biggest cheerleader every game…sitting right behind me.  I even got his popcorn on occasion lol.  She always sat her cup of Gatorade right on the end of the scorer’s/media table…where I sat.  Her occasional wink, nod, and “thanks for coming”- for me- was the equivalent of meeting my childhood hero!…….

For the past few months, Twitter has been all the rave. It’s in every discussion that involves public relations, marketing and advertising. How can we use Twitter to do XYZ? What is the ROI? What exactly is the point? How do you Twitter? That last question is usually asked by those who are seemingly so removed from technology, period.  For me, that question is almost always followed by “you know computers…teach me.”….
